About Dr. Leon C. Intrater and Associates... Dr. Leon C. Intrater, Ph.D., founder and director of Intrater and Associates has 30 years of experience in mental health psychotherapy working with adults, families and adolescents - - both indivdually and in groups. He has many years of experience in human/social services (psychosocial services), college/university teaching, research, and effective training of board members, executives, supervisors and staff in business and industry. His experience also includes serving in the executive director, direct service and training components of the nonprofit world, federal, state, locally and privately funded agencies and programs which effectively and successfully serve "hard-to-reach" and "hard-to-serve" populations. Dr. Intrater recently received an award from the state of Illinois for having developed the state's model foster parent law implementation plan. He founded and directed model programs for very troubled persons including the federally/nationally acknowledged model "Neon Street Center For Homeless and Runaway Youth/Adolescents." Dr. Intater co-authored the Illinois Homeless Youth Bill and was the founder and former director of the Oakton College Human Services Certification Program. He has been involved in the raising of over $100 million for various for profit and not-for-profit organizations servicing children, adolescents and families with significant problems of family breakup, lack of motivation and family communication problems, homeless families, children, indigent single parents including fathers, and mentally ill parents at risk of having their children "taken from them" and developed effective programs for helping parents at risk of losing custody of their children to develop the necessary skills for successfully maintaining custody of their children. Dr. Intrater and Associates work with business/industry, agencies and organizations in developing customized training programs using quality control, evaluation, measurable goals/outcomes and "user friendly" instruments to achieve them. He works with businesses, agencies and organizations in development of customized policies and procedures for specialized programs, and emphasizes strategic planning and effective, user-friendly forms. Dr. Intrater has worked with executives at Motorola, the U.S. Dept. of Health and Human Services, the Illinois Department on Commerce and Community Affairs, the Cincinnati Dept. of Human Services, McDonald's Corporation, IMCERA Corporation, United Way, MacArthur Foundation, CitiBank, Women's Club of Evanston, National Association of Social Workers, University of Chicago Alumni Association, Lutheran Social Services, Catholic Charities, U.S. Dept. of Housing and Urban Development, University of Illinois, Parents Without Partners, National Runaway Switchboard, Ravenswood Hospital Medical Center, Willowbrook of Minnesota, the Illinois State Board of Education, Better Homes and Gardens Foundation, Sara Lee Foundation, and the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Dr. Intrater's work has been seen on national and international televised bases including Austrailia, Crain's Chicago Business, Chicago Tribune, American Medical Association News, ABC's Janet Davies 30 minute "special" called "No Place To Call Home"...a "special" which airs each December on ABC News. His work has also been in the Chicago Reader, Chicago Sun-Times, Chicago Defender, and the Daily Northwestern. Dr. Leon C.
